About Federal Way Track Club

The Federal Way Track Club (FWTC) provides a running program for the youth (ages 8-14) in the south Puget Sound area. We provide training, education, opportunity and a safe and supportive environment to develop young athletes. Our volunteer and experienced coaching staff provides the training and education that enables the young athletes to achieve their goals.

FWTC is a sanctioned track and cross country club with the USA Track & Field (USATF) and Pacific Northwest Association (PNA). USATF is the national governing body for track & field, cross country and race walking in the United States. USATF encompasses the world's oldest organized sports, the World's #1 Track & Field Team, the most-watched events at the Olympics, the #1 high school and junior high school participatory sport, and more than 30 million runners in the United States.

FWTC offers a summer track program for ages 8-14, May 3rd -July 1st, 2021, at Federal Way Memorial Stadium. Traditionally in a non-Covid year, track meets are held on Saturdays and athletes compete in 2-year age groups (age as of the end of this year). Ages 12 and under are limited to three events, including relays; ages 13 and older are limited to four events, including relays.

The cross country program for ages 8-14 is September through November, with practices on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6pm-7:30pm at various local trails and parks. Cross country meets are primarily held on Saturdays and athletes compete in 2-year age groups. Ages 7-8 run a 2000m course, ages 9-10 and 11-12 run a 3000m course, ages 13-14 run a 4000m course.

FWTC participates in the local developmental meets which lead up to the Junior Olympic series. The Junior Olympic Association meet is for all athletes in Western Washington. The Junior Olympic Region 13 Championship meet is for those athletes who qualify from their respective Association – Pacific Northwest Association (Western Washington); Inland Empire Association (Eastern Washington) and Oregon Association. The Junior Olympic National meet is for those athletes who qualify from their respective region. Our three Associations make up Region 13.
